Linux is not going to take over in desktop region anytime soon. Last week i had a arguement with Satyajit of Sqlstar over linux vs windows and it still an upright one going on.Here is what i have noticed
Video Drivers
They are outright and painful if you look. The recent driver versions from NVIDIA seems to be out of the world. None of versions are compatible. Performance base they still or even can’t the nitche to what the redmond product windows shows.
Opensource
This is next thing, i see everywhere developers arguing. Can anyone tell when did Linux bring out the CD auto-mounting feature. It look them nearly 12 yrs which has been in windows since 1995.
Distributions
I see many proprietary softwares not willing to come forward to linux. Its simply because of copyright concerns or they don’t feel it as right. It shows an average users does not have Flash , no working media players , no DVD movies , no 3D graphics. Ah well where did the pretty fonts go which i was using in Windows? Another huh!
Developers, Well my part comes here.
Its a hard slog developing in linux. something compilied on RedHat very rarely works on slackware. Can anyone prove me wrong? People really spark a lot on Microsoft’s poor compatibility. I can’t see what GNU guys are upto when their source code is open.
Support for Hardware
Hardware support for other devices, especially wireless and printers, is abysmal. The best way and the fastest one is using ndiswrapper and run the windows drivers. I doubt there is a free one, its ok you get what you pay for.
Developers simply blame the company for no documentation. Do you need one???? Anyhow its from the same people who rarely document anything they do themselves - Linux documentation is simply a joke.
There are many more reasons, but this what i can put forward from my head. I like linux and use it too, but can anyone provide me a patch or a working version of softwares and games which can work on linux. The Answer is big NO.

Good job on spreading FUD. Have a nice day.
Pretty odd… I have been using Linux for my desktop PC and my laptop for a while and…
I have video acceleration working perfectly…
I have “smooth” fonts…
I have flash players (Macromedia/Adobe and an open source alternative)…
I have 3D video, as a matter of fact I run a 3D desktop…
I don’t care about games as I just don’t have time to spare playing…
I have compiled most applications without any issues or distribution problems…
I didn’t have to pay a single cent to download all the software I use…
My computer boots up and loads everything in less than 30 seconds, while XP took nearly a minute and Vista took nearly 2 minutes (including drivers, start-up services, desktop, etc.)
I’m not a huge linux-loving-windows-hating person, but I will never regret the day that I kissed Windows good-bye.
I used to have a virtual machine running windows to use some apps (like Photoshop, Corel Draw and to access some website using IE), however now I’ve mastered GIMP and I can do the same things I used to do with Photoshop, I switched to INKscape and stopped using Corel Draw, and I used WINE (A windows emulator) to install Internet Explorer so that I can access those sites that will only let you in if you use IE (banking websites).
My best advice would be that you need to broaden your research before claiming that Linux isn’t getting a nice share of the desktop users as I’ve personally helped over 200 people install and set up linux in their desktop PCs.
Please… PLEASE do some adequate research before posting this crap that you have obviously made up. I would love to see your sources for this information
There is only one thing you said that is true, and I can agree with; the default fonts on most linux distributions are ugly. I often find myself copying over the default TTF’s from Microsoft Windows.
Fabio Calderon made a pretty good accurate reply.
Windows is the best OS in the Market. Linux sucks big time for new comers.
Strange, at the bottom of this page it says:
